I have these pics in reverse of events ... so we rescued a bird in the bird feeder a couple days ago, which I shared with you.
Well, I heard ALL THIS COMMOTION on the second terrace & finally went out to see what on earth was going on ... here was this poor little fella who fell out of his nest. So I am hollaring for DH to come quickly ... my hero dh! He climbed up the ladder, across the boards, up the tree to put the little fella into the nest ... but he fell out. So back on a second attempt which was successful. BUT! a second little fella fell out ... so dh 'hero' again repeated the same rescue mission.
We no longer got done with the rescue mission when we noticed ANOTHER bird stuck in the bird feeder. Now we've had that bird feeder for several years & never a problem but now TWICE in 3 or 4 days ... this little fella was unable to be rescued, which was horrible. The bird feeder is now in the trash. Can't have any more accidents for our little feathered friends.
I can only say heartfelt TYs to dh for being so good about rescuing our precious little friends.
Oh my how sad. I found a little bird that was bathing in my pond, probably could not get out, and drowned :-( Very sad, and like you said, we have never had that happen before. But we aren't getting rid of the pond! Baby birds beware.

ReplyDeleteThis makes me soooo sad! :( We found a squirrel on our back porch when I opened the door on Saturday morning to let my Mollie the Molinator out. I was so frightend by the poor little thing not moving. It had fallen out of a tree...

ReplyDeleteMy Dad and I use to rescue birds all the time when I lived at home. My Dad is a strong and stern man, but so gentle with these little creatures. It was a lovely experience.

ReplyDeletePoor little birdies! I always feel so bad when one dies, even if it's only a bird. My Aunt and Uncle recently had a bird "couple" that had their nest right by their house. The other day my Uncle found the female, who appeared to have died during birdbirth. So sad. Her mate cried for her all the next day!
ReplyDeleteMarydon! I'm ashamed to say that your bird stories are so interesting...but so sad at the same time! I wonder why they keep falling out of the nest??? I know your husband is a hero but I would have been more worried about him falling!!!! Glad all is fine...well, except for the feeder tragedy. Glad you threw it away.

Glad your DH did not fall!! Baby birds do seem to have a nack for just falling right out. We will have nests blow out sometimes too ...I have put them in a cool whip and nailed up in the tree! Works some still there!

So sorry you lost the little bird. I know how sad you felt over this. But glad you tossed the feeder. I have birds building nests over some drain pipes every year and the nests almost always end up attacked by other birds. We've tried everything to keep them from building but haven't been able to prevent their problems. It's strange how nature works sometimes.
ReplyDeleteSuch a soft heart to climb up there to place that little guy back in his nest. It hard to see birds hurting. We feed and watch a nice variety of birds in our yard year round. Nesting season is especially interesting. Lots of love songs, lol.
